‘The proof remains the evidence’: NPA suggests ‘hits’ on Steroid King murder accused would not derail situation

An obvious hit on an accused in the so-known as Steroid King murder scenario will not derail the case, regional Countrywide Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila has certain.

Jason Maits, 27, was shot and killed in entrance of a property in Pruim Road, Mitchells Plain on Friday, 5 March, at 09:00.

“Mitchells Simple law enforcement are investigating a murder scenario after a shooting incident…Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident is underneath investigation,” police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk stated.

According to a Netwerk24 report, Maits, who has allegedly been connected to the 27s gang, was killed by somebody he knew.

Maits was one of 16 people today arrested in relationship with the murder of Wainstein, a suspected intercontinental steroid smuggler dubbed the Steroid King. Wainstein was shot at his Constantia house in front of his husband or wife and a 2-calendar year-outdated youngster on 18 August 2017.

Amongst the accused are alleged underworld figures, Mark Lifman and Jerome Booysen.

Maits was produced on R5 000 bail after showing in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 11 February. He is the 2nd accused to have been killed in an clear hit.

Fellow accused, William Stevens, was shot dead outside his dwelling in on Monday, 1 February.

The Wainstein murder circumstance is envisioned to resume on 12 May well and the NPA says it is unlikely that the fatalities will have an impact on proceedings.

“The death of an accused has minimal implications for the case as the evidence continues to be the evidence and each individual accused person is implicated by evidence connected to their involvement in the crimes,” Ntabazalila said.

Although the concentrate is on the murder of Wainstein, the scenario entails a variety of conspiracies and crimes committed between April and November 2017.

“The profiles of the accused in this issue are all those of gang and organised crime figures and as these, they are at danger of assassination,” Ntabazalila additional.
