DARPA awards Lockheed Martin $25 million agreement modification for integration of Blackjack satellites

The technology developed in the Blackjack application also is supporting the House Advancement Agency’s minimal Earth orbit constellation

WASHINGTON — The Protection Sophisticated Research Assignments Agency enhanced Lockheed Martin’s agreement for satellite integration do the job for the Blackjack application by $25.3 million, the agency introduced Sept. 7.

Lockheed Martin is the satellite integrator for Blackjack, a challenge to display the capabilities of modest satellites in reduced Earth orbit for armed service communications, missile warning and navigation. 

The business had earlier gained contracts for $13.1 million and $27.3 million. The new modification provides the whole price of the contract to $65.8 million.

The agency ordered 10 buses from Blue Canyon Technologies and two from Telesat. A number of providers, together with Raytheon, SEAKR Engineering and SA Photonics are giving payloads that Lockheed Martin integrates with the buses and the Pit Manager autonomous knowledge processor. The do the job is done at Lockheed’s manufacturing facility in Sunnyvale, California.

The engineering developed in the Blackjack method also is supporting the Pentagon’s Area Advancement Company which is operating on a significant network of communications and missile-warning satellites in very low Earth orbit.
